Technical/User Documentation Writer – Belfast – Contract (up to 12 months)

TRG Screen (“TRG”) is a growing, dynamic, software company providing spend management software solutions that enable enterprises to optimize their entire universe of corporate subscriptions, recurring expenses and vendor relationships. We have over 450 clients across the financial services, legal and professional services industries. We were founded in 1998, have been profitable since our inception, and are backed by private equity firm Pamlico Capital. We are a global business with 150 employees, headquartered in New York, with offices in Belfast, London, the Netherlands and Minneapolis.

TRG Screen is restyling and updating its flagship application. The legacy documentation from the previous version of the application is out of date.


This role will partner with our Product Managers, User Experience Designers and Customer Success team to update and rewrite the user guide to reflect the updated application. Also, as part of this work we wish to transform it from a technical user manual to a “how to” guide (possibly in the style of a “Dummy’s Guide”) which talks users through how to complete their business tasks.

This role is based in Belfast. Some travel to London may be required from time to time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product management and engineering to define the documentation strategy and approach
  • Prepare a documentation plan and clearly articulate key milestones and deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders
  • Translate existing product functionality and business requirements into technical documentation & training material
  • Implement an efficient and effective documentation process to successfully support repeatable client documentation activities
  • Establish and promote documentation guidelines, best practices and standards, including multimedia delivery
  • Facilitate and drive the review cycle for all documentation produced
  • Execute a successful handover to the Customer Support team and ensure that the documentation and training artefacts are maintainable and extensible

Necessary skills

  • Proven experience of delivering enterprise level user documentation for software products, that is accurate and high quality
  • Knowledge of industry-standard tools to support the delivery of a comprehensive documentation suite
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively to convey complex concepts
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Ability to create attractive informative user documentation for both electronic (web-based) and paper-based delivery
  • Delivery-focused, and self-motivated
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline

Some of the following experience would also be useful:

  • Prior experience at a B2B SaaS/software product company
  • Domain knowledge of financial market data subscription management within the financial services industry
  • Familiarity with legal research & information resources from Bloomberg, Refinitiv, FactSet, etc. Knowledge of adjacent legal information services from Thomson Reuters Westlaw, Law360, Wolters Kluwer a plus
  • Familiarity with modern BI/reporting/data analytics technologies such as PowerBI, Tableau or Looker
